What do I know About Valentine's Day?
74What do I know about Valentine's Day? I know that there were years when I felt sad being alone on this day. I also know I’ve been fortunate to have been taken out to dinner and wined and dined by an extraordinary fellow the past few V-days. I also know three years ago I turned my man down on Valentine's Day. So you don’t begin to think that I am totally heartless, I’ll add that a few days later I did reconsider, that we’ve been dating since, and that this whole paragraph has been centered on the same dude.
It feels good on Valentine's Day spending time with the one I love. It also feels good telling people my plans for Valentine's Day. Not that my plans are anything extravagant but a simple dinner out and a movie rental, yet thinking about it makes my heart flutter just a little.

Personally, I’ve been given roses on numerous occasions. Birthdays, Valentine's Day or flowers for being me - no specific occasion necessary. All are great celebrations and the flowers are a wonderful and sometimes desperately needed addition.
Some people choose to remember their Valentine's Day in very memorable ways such as, getting married, or engaged. Others, heartlessly, decide to hurt their loved one on this day. This will only leave a horrible taste for Valentine's Day in the receiving ends mouth for many more years to come, and matter of fact is a very tactless way of ending a relationship.
Now I have a question. For me, I thought Valentine's Day was a time to give the one you loved something special. But here’s the deal. My silly mother thinks it’s the time to give the woman you love something special like flowers and chocolates, and if you are a man then you make out with zero. I laugh at this because I know my man and he has got a pretty big sweet tooth on him. Now I’m interested to read what you all have to think about this. Is mom simply old-fashioned, or am I just a gullible fool for spending my hard-earned dollars on him? Do tell me what you really think!
Valentine's Day is just another day. I know I have had good Valentine's Days, mediocre ones, and ones that would rate about a two on the 1-10 scale. Yes, these were the Valentine's Days which I spent alone with myself and my sorrows watching Brokeback Mountain.
If you are single though and this part of the article just made you severely depressed, please don’t frown. Movies such as the one aforementioned as well as real tearjerkers like the Notebook or Ghost, will make any Singles Awareness Day, oops, I mean Valentine's Day, not so bad a night after all. This time can be spent with other single friends sharing time together and celebrating the positives of being single.
All in all, Valentine's Day is what you make of it! If you want chocolates, well, I’ll cross my fingers for you. And if you want to give chocolates to your special someone, then go for it. Spend the day doing as you please. It’s your life- live it up!

Congratulations on your hubnugget nomination. If I want chocolate on Valentines Day, then I buy it. That way I won't be mad that no one got me chocolate.
Namaste.
I really enjoyed your hub. I tend to think that you are right but who knows, to each his own I guess! I think that if you have a good self esteem and are single, I think that it doesn't matter what the calendar says. Congrats on the nomination.
Congratulations on your nomination, being a man the idea of receiving gifts on Valentines day appealed to me when I was younger. In one of my marriages it was the "only holiday my wife could celebrate for religious reasons". It really made life interesting. In this marriage I always received gifts on Valentines day. In other relationships I never did as well. I am single now and will remain single till I die so the presents from the children who are around me mean the world to me. Even like this year when it was a candy heart (with no wrapper)they had carried around for hours and dropped on the floor many times. Good luck
